KVCR Receives Grant from The CA Endowment To Have Local Students Produce Short Film Documentaries

KVCR Public Media is excited to announce that it received a $25,000 grant from The CA Endowment to have 10 local high school students produce short film documentaries. KVCR, the PBS affiliated public TV station serving the Inland Empire, was selected to participate in identifying 10 local high school students to work with KVCR staff to produce short film documentaries in areas of social justice, education or social issues that students face on a regular basis. Students will work closely with KVCR professional staff to develop their short films at the station.

Students will learn about the basics of camera and lighting, creating a story proposal and story boards, filming, editing and post-production techniques. Students will further learn about the Film, Television & Media program (FTVM) at San Bernardino Valley College during the 10-week program. Upon learning the basics in these areas, students will display their knowledge by creating a short film documentary.

Briana Navarro from KVCR (Alumni Valley College ‘23) will work with the students on their 10-week program and documentary project. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a $1,000 stipend and will showcase their work at KVCR Studios for a special screening ceremony on Thursday, June 27th, 2024 at 5:30pm.

Connie Leyva, Executive Director of KVCR stated, “We are so excited to have the support from The CA Endowment in their support for local high schools to gain knowledge in creating short film documentaries and supporting students in their career endeavors.”
